Several years ago, a neighbor taught me to crochet, thinking it would be something I could do to pass a bit of time here and there. It was both a comfort and a distraction from some of the not-so-great things I was dealing with at the time. Neither of us realized how much I would come to love crocheting. Life happened, as it does, and I put the crocheting aside for a while.
In 2016, I moved to a wonderful place out in the country. After a couple of months, I was itching to pick up my hook and yarn again. I had to relearn a few stitches, but it didn’t take me long. Since then, it’s rare that more than a day or two goes by without doing at least a few rows on a project.
I quickly realized that I would soon have more yarn projects than space to store them, and I really wanted to branch out to doing more than blankets – although blankets are still my all-time favorite projects, and I always have at least one in process. That’s when the idea of Hamlin Craftworks was born. I did my first craft show in November 2017, and have since made several special-order pieces. If I’m not making a custom piece, I focus on making pieces that make me happy. After all, if I don’t enjoy what I’m making, what’s the point?
Yes, the bulk of what I make and sell will be crocheted items. However, I have several other crafts that I’m hoping I’ll soon be confident enough to share and possibly sell. We’ll just have to see how things go, won’t we?
